10 Best Taco Restaurants in San Antonio
Everyone knows that aside from the Spurs the one other thing we do not play about is our Tacos. We're done with the whole Austin V. SA taco debate, it's no contest SA will always come out on top when it comes to Tacos. With so many options the SA Express news came out with a list of the top 10 best taco restaurants. We did the extra leg work and verified their list (at the expense of my "Get fit" new years resolution) and we want to share these local restaurants tht you should definitely check out!
10.Con Huevos is one of the newest additions to Dignowity Hill and it's quickly becoming an East Side favorite. Tucked away in a little peacock blue box, Con Huevos offers tacos, chilaquiles, aguas frescas, and huaraches. But it's their breakfast tacos that makes them stand out from the rest. From a simple bacon-and-egg to the more complex Irma, Con Huevos serves up some of the best breakfast tacos around.
9. Rossy's Tacos is a hidden gem in the bustling South Side of San Antonio. From the outside, this little mom-and-pop shop may seem unassuming but it's serving up some of the best tacos in town. Whether its their crispy tripas, fluffy eggs with grilled cactus, or their signature Wiener Guisado - Rossy's Tacos is sure to please any taste. And don't forget to try their signature mollejas, fried on the flat-top with pico de gallo for a firm texture and that 'other' flavor that only organ meat can pull off.
8. La Generala is a taco truck located on the West Side of San Antonio. It's been around since 2020 and has quickly become well known for its handmade corn tortillas and savory tacos filled with carne asada, al pastor, and pork ribs. La Generala also offers an array of salsas ranging from a chile de árbol to serrano chiles. If you're looking for a delicious taco experience, La Generala is the place to go.
7.Tlahco Mexican Kitchen is one of the culinary delights hidden away in San Antonio. Upon entering, customers are welcomed by rustic decor, dim lighting, and the aroma of freshly made dishes. Tlahco's menu offers a variety of breakfast tacos, pancakes, enchiladas, tacos, tortas and soups. Their signature dish is the cochinita pibil - a shredded pork that glows with a dusky red twang on handmade corn tortillas. Other taco menu options include real chilaquiles verdes with queso fresco and tacos with potato and chorizo that are sure to tantalize your taste buds.
6. Birriería y Taquería Ay Arandas, located near St. Mary's University in the Prospect Hill neighborhood of San Antonio, is quickly becoming one of the most popular spots in town for birria. Their spicy red broth filled with braised beef or lamb is cooked to perfection on the grill and served on tacos, burritos, or quesadillas. The shop also offers an array of street tacos filled with cabeza meat, tripas, lengua, and al pastor. Add in their salsa bar that's stocked with a variety of salsas, nopal salad, radishes, cucumbers and habanero that will bring you to tears.
5. Casa Tarasca Carnitas Estilo Michoacán is a San Antonio Staple. From the moment you walk in, the smell of pork wafts from the kitchen and hits your nose with a delicious aroma. Owner and chef Jose Chávez serves up some of the best carnitas in town, as well as a range of skills he intends to parlay into a full brick-and-mortar taquería soon. His Carnitas surtido combines the fatty, flossy and crunchy textures that give carnitas its heart and soul, while his version of cueritos doubled down on the silkiness that only comes from pork skin. An absolute must-try for any carnita lover.
4.Taquitos West Ave is a highly-rated taqueria located in the just north of I-!0 on West Ave. With its al pastor trompo spinning in the kitchen window, Taquitos West Ave is known for its traditional Mexican tacos. The taqueros serve slices of achiote-marinated pork from the trompo, finishing it on the grill to perfection. Customers can choose from a variety of tacos or opt for one of the specialties like the carnitas taco topped with guacamole and served with salsa verde.
1.Teran’s Restaurant has been serving up delicious Mexican breakfast tacos in San Antonio for 35 years. Located just off of South W.W. White and East Houston, this family-run restaurant is open from 3:30 in the morning to 1:30 in the afternoon. Customers can choose from a variety of traditional breakfast tacos, including fluffy eggs, cowboy bacon, cheese, beans, smoked sausage and ham. The restaurant also offers chilaquiles verdes, tacos with potato and chorizo and their signature dish - the Teran’s Taco.
