Idle Brewery almost complete at River North's Make Ready Market

Craft beer lovers in San Antonio can soon look forward to the opening of Idle Beer Hall & Brewery, a subsidiary of Pouring With Heart based in LA, which operates similar spots in Austin, Denver, and Southern California, all known for their taste in craft brews. Idle was one of the first tenants confirmed for the much-anticipated Make Ready Market, a River North food hall now under construction.

The brewery’s beers will be crisp, clean, and approachable, according to Jamie Shen, the Communications Director of Pouring With Heart. “Idle's 10-barrel brewhouse will provide crushable kolschs, pilsners and lagers and the occasional IPA, perfect to enjoy in the heat of summer,” Shen said. Details about Idle’s opening date have not been shared, but the company is searching for a local brewmaster to take the helm.

Idle's facility will blend historical and industrial elements with earthy features that pay homage to the rich Mexican influence on Texas, according to a statement from local architecture firm Studio 8, which is involved in its design. The spot will feature warm wood furniture, colorful tile, vintage doors and light fixtures, natural light, and casual seating areas, as shown in the renderings.

Make Ready Market, located at 711 Broadway, will utilize two historic buildings, one of which was originally part of a Cavender Cadillac dealership. The food hall is named after that building, where cars were “made ready” with their final clean and polish.

The anticipation for Idle Beer Hall & Brewery's opening is high, as details about what to expect from its brews and the building it will occupy have been scant. However, with the involvement of Pouring With Heart and the promise of crisp, clean, and approachable beers, it's sure to be a hit among craft beer enthusiasts in San Antonio.
