New Cycle-Themed Brewery now open in Government Hill
San Antonio's craft beer scene has just gotten a little bit better with the opening of Breakaway Brewing Co. Located in Government Hill, this cycling-themed brewery is the brainchild of Chris and Jean Pal-Freeman, who bring their knowledge from the bike and beer cultures of the Pacific Northwest to San Antonio. Last Friday they officially opened their doors to cyclists and beer lovers alike, inviting them in to experience what Breakaway Brewing Co. has to offer.
Chris is the head brewer, and he focuses on creating handcrafted beers based on recipes that have been perfected over time. One of these featured beers is the Vogel, a German-style Altbier named for German track cyclist Kristina Vogel. As an eleven-time UCI World Champion and multi-medal winner in the Olympic games, as well as someone who was tragically paralyzed following a crash in June of 2018, Kristina's name serves to honor her resilience and strength.
Breakaway Brewing Co. also offers its guests a variety of food options. The gastropub-inspired menu features everything from wedge salads topped with chorizo to brisket tacos and a unique take on Italian deep-fried rice balls, known as Jambalaya Arancini. Breakaway Brewing Co. is a must-visit destination for cyclists and craft beer lovers alike, offering the perfect combination of bike culture and handcrafted beers. From Kristina Vogel's namesake Altbier to their delicious gastropub menu items, Breakaway Brewing Co. has something for everyone. Take some time this weekend to check out San Antonio’s newest brewery and support local businesses in Government Hill.
