San Antonio’s Gimme Gimme Turns Adjacent Wine Bar into a Vinyl Lover’s Paradise

What started as a cocktail lounge with a rock ‘n’ roll spirit has now evolved into something even more immersive. Gimme Gimme, a beloved Southtown bar known for its craft cocktails and lively atmosphere, has transformed its adjacent space into Friends of Sound Records’ second San Antonio location—giving music and drink lovers a unique new way to experience both.

The idea to turn A Perfect Day Wine Bar, Gimme Gimme’s former sister concept, into a record store felt like a natural fit, co-founder Aaron Peña told the San Antonio Current. Now, guests can sip on classic cocktails like daiquiris and Negronis while flipping through vintage vinyl, all under the same roof. A short hallway connects the two spaces, allowing for a seamless experience.

“For us, it was an easy decision,” Peña explained. “The Perfect Day space was always secondary to Gimme Gimme, and we wanted to activate it with something that would complement the synergy and flow of the bar.”

Gimme Gimme, located at 803 S. St. Mary’s St., has already earned a reputation for its signature drinks, frozen cocktails, wine, beer, and weekly food specials—including its popular Wednesday steak night featuring ribeye au poivre and duck fat fries for $28. With the addition of Friends of Sound, the space now becomes San Antonio’s first full bar with an integrated record shop, marking a significant moment for both the bar and the music community.

Friends of Sound recently relocated its original San Antonio shop to 823 Fredericksburg Road, making this new location a special milestone. Peña, who has always been a fan of vinyl, said the move felt like a natural progression.

“As record nerds ourselves, we loved the idea that we could have the first bar in San Antonio with a built-in record shop,” he said.
