Seguin Amusement Park Closing After 18 Years

by Tre Serrano

SEGUIN, TEXAS — A beloved family amusement park just outside San Antonio is gearing up for its final season. ZDT’s Amusement Park, known for its inventive rides and nostalgic flair, will close its gates after the 2025 season, with its last day scheduled for August 17.

📆 A Final Farewell to ZDT’s Legacy

For more than 18 years, ZDT’s has been a fixture in Seguin, bringing joy to generations through attractions like go-karts, a water coaster, and the internationally recognized wooden shuttle coaster—the Switchback. Named for founders Zac, Danielle, and Tiffany, it opened in 2007 and expanded steadily over the years.

Co-owner Sarah Donhauser reflected: “Attendance has been dwindling … It became apparent we needed to close.” Rising operating costs and a changing business environment also led to the difficult decision.

🎡 A One-of-a-Kind Ride: The Switchback Coaster

The Switchback, introduced in 2015, offered a world-first ride experience—a wooden coaster that sent riders both forward and backward on an 87-degree incline. It stood as a symbol of ZDT’s creative ambition and helped earn the park a devoted following among coaster enthusiasts.

😢 Community Reacts with Nostalgia

Fans and locals took to social media to express their sadness. One visitor called it a “hidden jewel,” while others recalled birthday parties and first rides at the park. The heartfelt comments reflected how deeply ZDT’s had become a part of local memory.
