Two San Antonio High Schools Rank Among America's Best In 2025

Two of San Antonio’s most prestigious schools are earning national recognition for academic excellence. According to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best High Schools rankings, Basis San Antonio – Shavano Campus and Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) are among the top 100 high schools in the United States.
Basis San Antonio – Shavano Campus
Basis San Antonio – Shavano Campus made impressive gains this year, ranking as the No. 7 best high school in Texas and the 58th best high school nationwide. The campus also secured:
-
No. 14 best charter school in the U.S.
-
No. 18 in national STEM school rankings
This marks a notable improvement from 2024, when the school placed 64th in the U.S. and 19th in STEM.
Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA)
The San Antonio ISD’s Young Women’s Leadership Academy also climbed the charts in 2025, now ranked as the 11th best high school in Texas and 98th nationally. YWLA also landed on the list of the top 25 best charter schools in the U.S., coming in at No. 23.
Last year, the school held the No. 14 spot statewide, making this year’s jump to No. 11 a significant achievement.
Other High-Performing San Antonio Schools
Beyond the two top-100 national standouts, other San Antonio schools also received statewide recognition in the 2025 rankings:
-
No. 16 – Health Careers High School (Northside ISD)
-
No. 51 – IDEA Carver College Preparatory (charter)
-
No. 99 – International School of America (North East ISD)
How U.S. News Ranks Schools
Each year, U.S. News & World Report evaluates nearly 24,000 public high schools nationwide using six key factors:
-
College readiness
-
College curriculum breadth
-
State assessment proficiency
-
State assessment performance
-
Underserved student performance
-
Graduation rates
For 2025, U.S. News adjusted its methodology by removing the “top magnet schools” category due to a lack of updated data, though STEM and charter school rankings remained unaffected.
Texas Schools Among the Nation’s Best
In addition to San Antonio’s schools, nine other Texas campuses made the top 100 national list, including Dallas ISD’s School for the Talented and Gifted (No. 9) and Austin ISD’s Liberal Arts and Science Academy (No. 36).
These consistent rankings highlight Texas’ strong presence in academic excellence, STEM education, and charter school leadership at the national level.
