We gave Blue Bell's new Dr. Pepper Float ice cream a try. Here's our take on it.

by The Cavalry Realty Group

The creamy vanilla base overpowers any peppery notes that you'd expect from the soda, giving it a rich and smooth taste.

OG San Antonio favorite, Blue Bell Ice Cream recently made a big announcement about their collaboration with Dr Pepper.  With the anticipation building among San Antonians with a sweet tooth, we couldn't resist trying Blue Bell's limited-edition Dr Pepper Float flavored ice cream to see what all the excitement was about.

According to Blue Bell, the new flavor combines creamy vanilla ice cream with swirls of Dr Pepper flavored sherbet. While we can definitely confirm the creaminess of the vanilla, we have to admit that if we didn't know the goal was to replicate the taste of Dr Pepper, we might not have recognized the Dr.Pepper flavor we all know so well.

Here's the situation: the creamy richness of the vanilla base tends to overpower the expected peppery notes from the soda in Blue Bell's Dr Pepper Float ice cream. However, we believe that the soda-tinted ice cream would be more enjoyable if used in an actual float, with an additional pour of Dr Pepper.

Overall, Blue Bell has created a solid soda-infused ice cream, although it may not have the distinct and unmistakable flavor of Dr Pepper. If you're seeking a summer treat that truly captures the essence of a Dr Pepper float, we recommend grabbing both the limited-edition Blue Bell ice cream (available until 2024) and a six-pack of the soda itself.

You can find the new ice cream in pints and half-gallons at local grocery stores.
