San Antonio is set to witness a historic act of generosity as Reverend James Robinson and Gospel Vision Music Ministry prepare for what they hope will be their largest Thanksgiving turkey giveaway to date. On November 23 at Comanche Park, the nonprofit aims to distribute 1,500 turkeys, along with all the fixings, to families in need. This heartwarming event, in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank and local law enforcement, continues a legacy of giving started by Robinson’s late mother, Verna Mae "Mama" Boone. For over 50 years, Mama Boone fed the homeless in San Antonio, and her spirit of service lives on through Robinson’s tireless efforts to uplift the community.
The turkey giveaway will feature more than just food—it’s a celebration of community spirit. Families attending can marvel at an antique fire truck, police car, and a showcase of 25 low riders. Law enforcement officers from San Antonio and neighboring cities will take turns handing out turkeys, highlighting the strong partnership between first responders and the community. Alongside distributing meals, the San Antonio Police Officers Association will provide food for the first responders working the event. Robinson hopes the day will not only provide for those in need but also shine a light on the sacrifices made by first responders during the holiday season. With such a monumental goal in sight, this event is poised to bring the city together in a profound act of kindness and celebration.
