Civic Park at Hemisfair: A Downtown San Antonio Transformation

Exciting news is buzzing in downtown San Antonio, and we can't wait to share it with you. The Civic Park at Hemisfair is getting ready to reveal its very first phase on September 29, and it's happening alongside the awesome 40th annual Jazz'SAlive event. This project, which cost $21 million, is spread across 6.9 acres and is about to give our cityscape a whole new look! So, what's in store for you in this first phase? Well, there's something called "The Promenade," an 825-foot walkway that connects Market, South Alamo, and Nueva streets. It's going to be surrounded by more than 130 native trees of 29 different kinds – how cool is that? And right at the heart of the park, we've got the "Great Lawn," a 1.5-acre space where all kinds of events can take place.  But that's not all! This park is all about being eco-friendly too. Check out "The Springs," a water feature that's kind to our environment. It uses water that's recycled from a huge 40,000-gallon underground tank. Inspired by the natural springs around here, there's also a 3,700-square-foot building in the park and a 400-foot water channel that gently slopes 4 feet from north to south. Plus, we've got 11,000 Lueders Limestone slabs, specially brought in from a quarry up north by Abilene, to add to the park's beauty. You won't have to wait long to see all these fantastic features in action because they'll be open for exploring during the free, two-day Jazz'SAlive music festival. The Civic Park at Hemisfair is going to give downtown San Antonio a fresh and vibrant oasis where the community can come together and relax. Whether you're a local or just visiting, get ready for some serious fun in the heart of our city! 🌳🎶

Texas State Parks Salute: Free Access for Military Heroes and Families

With the weather finaly cooling down, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has expanded its Parklands Passports program, bringing great news to Veterans, Active-duty Military Personnel, and their families. Effective immediately, these heroes and their loved ones can now enjoy free access to Texas state parks, thanks to a legislative update in 2023. This heartwarming gesture underscores Texas's unwavering commitment to recognizing and honoring the sacrifices of our military community. With a valid photo ID and one of several approved documents in hand, such as a DOD-issued veteran's ID card or a state-issued driver's license with veteran designation, they can embark on outdoor adventures without financial constraints. It's a small but meaningful way to express gratitude and provide our heroes with the chance to savor the natural beauty of Texas's state parks, forging cherished memories in the great outdoors.   There are so many amazing parks to check out here are a few of our favorites:   Government Canyon State Natural Area 12861 Galm Rd, San Antonio, TX 78254 Guadalupe River State Park 3350 Park Rd 31, Spring Branch, TX 78070 Palmetto State Park 78 Park Rd 11 S, Gonzales, TX 78629 Blanco State Park 101 Park Rd 23, Blanco, TX 78606 Hill Country State Natural Area 10600 Bandera Creek Rd, Bandera, TX 78003 Choke Canyon State Park 85 Park Road 36, Calliham, TX 78007 Braunig Lake Park Distance from San Antonio: Approximately 15 miles southeast 17500 Donop Rd, San Antonio, TX 78223 (Note: This is a Bexar County park) Eisenhower Park 19399 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78257 (Note: This is a city park, not a state park)
